(ECNS) – The two resolutions that the U.S. Senate passed on Wednesday evening are purely meant to score political points and dramatize the situation, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a press conference on Thursday.
Wang made the remarks after a reporter said the two resolutions condemn “the use by the People’s Republic of China of a high-altitude surveillance balloon over the territory of the United States as a brazen violation of United States sovereignty.”
China strongly disapproves of and firmly opposes them, the spokesperson said.
“We strongly urge the U.S. Congress to respect facts, respect the spirit of international law and the basic norms in international relations, immediately stop smearing China, and stop taking actions that may escalate the situation,” he added.
